Starting to draw character art

Working on a new concept for Satri Van Buren....now Satri Lockridge....retired business tycoon, and the president's mother. Also did I mention she's a total bitch? :D More developments on her later.

As my 8th official landscape of the world I'm creating (Ion Valley), I present you the suburbs of Ohmsdale. This luxurious neighborhood is home to the main characters and has many wonderful features. Being only minutes from Hybolt City while still having access to beautiful parks and lakes for some peace and quite, who wouldn't want to raise a family here? in a world of airship culture, streets and roads as we know it are quite different than Earth. In Ion Valley, environmental planning is specifically designed for public transit and airship traffic. This leaves wonderful wide open walkways and ample more room for parks and properties. Sidewalks are now mainwalks! HA!

Contact your real estate agent today to look for fabulous properties in Ohmsdale. However, be prepared for some steep pricing.

Satri has definitely gone through some transformations over the months, but I must say this redesign is probably the most fitting. Considering this is based on my sister's real life cat (who yes is a total bitch), I believe I've captured the essence of her character. She's controlling, calculated, cynical, and just simply a....ahem...bitch.

Formerly the CEO of Lockridge Industries, she's now comfortably retired, yet she still wants her hands in day to day operations. Did I mention she's the President's mother? She's not only got her hands in business, but politics as well. Her son Winston thinks he's running the show, but she's more the puppet master than anything. However, there are things she even keeps from her own son, as her goals are quite different than his. One thing is for sure, don't get on her bad side or she'll make your life a living hell.

Really nice work here--great thread!

You have some nice gestures in your pose work, especially with the more recent work.  I like the old woman's hands on the tea cup.  I feel like hands and pose gestures offer us a great opportunity to extend the character beyond the face--I would love to see you explore poses (body and hands) in your characters more--check out Milt Kahl if you haven't already, I think you might really like the way he expresses character (body and hands).

Looking forward to more, again, really awesome work! :)

Hey thanks! I definitely plan to go nuts on drawing hands and poses because I'll have to in order to tell my story. :D I'm still making sure I get my proportions, perspective, and designs in check, but I know that gestures and hands definitely help bring a character to life.  ;)

Anyway, I'm at 9 of 10 planned landscapes and I'm happy to present the second Ion Valley postcard! I really tried to improve my use of color values and light on this one. Hopefully it shows. Anyway, from these parts you can see Ohmsdale and Hybolt City far...FAR...in the distance. These two travelers are passing by Zap's Peak in the morning with one heck of a view along with the sun rising from the east. If you look closely below, you'll see one of the Voltrak trains speeding along in the dark valley. What's that.....a passing airship? Get ready to wave!

I really like the energy/"life" the poses you draw seem to have, and I'm enjoying the world you're gradually building.

Hey thanks man! It's a never-ending process but I'm still driven.....over 2 years later. :D I'm in the midst of polishing all my characters up for the future website, but I detoured and made this one a simple piece since I've always liked it. Here's Abram and Enzo flying a little airship together. Titled "Quality Time".

Too much booze one night and randomly sketched this into existence. Yes, I had a laugh, but MGS is awesome too. I suppose this community will appreciate it even more. :P

He looks like he just realized that "Solid Snake" can be a euphemism.

GAWD. I'm regretting releasing this pic to the public ironically. :P

Here's another pic that's a favorite of mine...then again, these are cartoon versions of my real life pet cats. LOL (Pixel and Helix), although here is Theo and Nelly.

Archer has always had trouble getting a solid look. His concepts were always sketchy and dirty and constantly being revised. I believe this is his strongest look so far as he cleaned up nicely from the initial concepts. :D He's a main character after all.
